Ysgol Rhydypennau Celebrates 150 Years of Excellence with Top Inspection Praise
The staff at Ysgol Rhydypennau in Bow Street have much to celebrate, marking the school's momentous 150th anniversary alongside an impressive inspection report from Estyn. As inspectors commended the school as a “happy, caring and inclusive learning community,” it is clear that Ysgol Rhydypennau has successfully built a legacy of excellence in education.
Exceptional Leadership and an Inclusive Environment
The Estyn inspectors, who visited the 194-pupil primary school in March, highlighted the outstanding leadership under headteacher Peter Leggett. They noted that he provides “strong and wise leadership that sets a clear strategic direction” and fosters an environment centered on pupils' well-being and progress.
According to the report, the staff have cultivated an engaging and inclusive curriculum, successfully maintaining pupils' interest and enthusiasm for learning. This has resulted in almost all pupils demonstrating positive attitudes and good behavior, which Leggett describes as a reflection of the school's caring and ambitious ethos.
Community Support and a Commitment to Improvement
Leggett expressed his delight at the positive inspection report, stating it is a testament to the dedication of the talented staff, supportive governors, and involved parents. He emphasized the pride the school takes in its supportive community, especially during this significant anniversary year.
While the inspection report was overwhelmingly positive, Estyn provided two recommendations for continued improvement. These include expanding opportunities for pupils to make independent choices in their learning and enhancing understanding of diversity, equality, and identities within different communities. The school is committed to creating an action plan to address these recommendations, ensuring it continues to evolve and excel.
