Yorkshire Day: A Celebration of Community and Culture in Huddersfield
This year marks the 51st anniversary of Yorkshire Day, an occasion that brings together residents of Huddersfield and beyond to celebrate the vibrant culture and heritage of this historic county. Established in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society, Yorkshire Day has transformed from a protest movement into a celebration that highlights the diversity, beauty, and community spirit of Yorkshire.

Huddersfield locals take great pride in their county, with many expressing their affection for everything from the delightful food to the picturesque landscapes of the dales. One couple interviewed shared, "Everyone is so friendly and outgoing. That's what really makes it. It's beautiful as well, of course." A Free Festival for All Ages
This year, the festivities will unfold at Oakwell Hall & Country Park on August 2, featuring a family-friendly festival filled with music, food, and a plethora of creative activities. With support from Kirklees Council, the event is designed to be the greenest yet, promoting sustainable practices such as off-site recycling and green energy, as well as encouraging visitors to travel sustainably.
Live Performances and Local Crafts
Attendees will be treated to performances from local talents including The Crescendos, Penny, and Hardeep Sahota, among others. The Yorkshire Makers' Market will return, showcasing over 50 stalls with a wide array of handcrafted products, ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy. Furthermore, visitors can experience the unique offerings of the Poetry Takeaway, where Yorkshire-born poets will create personalized poems for festival-goers.
Fun for Families and Their Pets
Yorkshire Day's festivities will not be limited to humans, as Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue will host a Dog Show, inviting pets to compete in various entertaining categories. Families can also participate in the Great Yorkshire Games, featuring whimsical and quirky sporting contests that promise fun for both participants and spectators.
