Worcestershire County Council Shines in Adult Social Care Assessment
In a recent evaluation by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Worcestershire County Council received high praise for its adult social care services, marking a significant achievement in supporting the community. Following a comprehensive three-day inspection in November 2025, the council was rated as ‘good’ in its duties under the Care Act 2014, highlighting its commitment to delivering exceptional care.
Exemplary Support for Independence
The CQC assessment focused on several key areas, including how effectively the council assists individuals in accessing care and promoting their independence and well-being. Chris Badger, the CQC’s chief inspector of adult social care, commented on the council’s many strengths, noting the positive feedback received from those using the services and their unpaid carers. This feedback underscores the council's dedication to understanding the unique needs of each individual and providing tailored support.
Commitment to Quality Care
Worcestershire County Council’s approach is characterized by a strong commitment to helping residents remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Staff members utilize various community resources, including early short-term support and assistive technologies, to assist people in maintaining their independence. The CQC's review highlighted the council's strong performance in person-centred care and effective partnership working, which are essential components of quality adult social care.
Looking Ahead to Future Improvements
Mark Fitton, the strategic director for adults and communities at Worcestershire County Council, expressed pride in the recognition received from the CQC and emphasized the importance of continually enhancing services. "This is a fantastic result for Worcestershire and, most importantly, for the people who rely on our services to lead a meaningful life," he stated. The council is already taking steps to address areas identified for improvement, including better access to services in rural areas and enhanced communication during transitions between services.
The proactive stance taken by Worcestershire County Council showcases a promising future for adult social care in the region, with a clear focus on providing high-quality, person-centred support that aligns with the needs and goals of the community.
