Wibli Wobli Nursery Receives Glowing Praise in Inspection, Showcasing Resilience and Growth

Wibli Wobli, a Welsh-medium nursery located in Newport, has garnered high praise during its first inspection by Estyn and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). The nursery, which caters to children aged 0-5, received a “good” rating across all key areas, highlighting its commitment to providing a happy and nurturing environment for children.

Outstanding Care and Development

During the inspection, inspectors noted that Wibli Wobli was “well-run” and identified “many strengths” in its operations. The areas of well-being, care and development, environment, and leadership were all commended, with no significant weaknesses observed. The nursery has been carefully designed to ensure a safe and stimulating environment, with ample natural light and quality furnishings.

Focus on Welsh Language and Play-Based Learning

A key aspect of Wibli Wobli's approach is its emphasis on using Welsh as the primary language of care and learning. This initiative is helping to promote language development among the children, many of whom were observed naturally using Welsh words during play. The nursery emphasizes play-based learning, with activities that include imaginative role play, “magic potion” making, and water experiments, all of which cater to early creative, mathematical, and scientific thinking.

Resilience in the Face of Adversity

Wibli Wobli's recent positive outcome comes after a challenging period when a fire devastated its previous premises in early 2024. Despite this setback, owner Natasha Baker, with support from Business Wales and financial aid from the UK Steel Enterprise Support Programme, was able to secure new premises and successfully reopen the nursery at Cleppa Park. Additionally, a second site has been opened in Roath, Cardiff, extending its services to children up to age seven.
