Weymouth Care Home Triumphs with "Good" Rating After Major Improvements

A remarkable turnaround has been achieved at The Lawns care home in Weymouth, which has recently received a commendable "Good" rating across all areas from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This positive feedback comes after a series of substantial improvements following prior warning notices.

Significant Progress Noted by Inspectors

During an assessment conducted between July 9 and July 21, inspectors observed that the care home, which supports up to 41 older individuals, had effectively addressed the concerns that had previously led to four warning notices issued in September 2024. These notices pertained to crucial aspects of care such as safe treatment, dignity, respect, and governance.

A Supportive and Safe Environment

The CQC's report highlighted the development of a positive and supportive culture within the facility. The inspectors praised the staff for their training and dedication, noting that residents received safe care and that safeguarding concerns were recognized and reported effectively. Many family members of the residents expressed satisfaction, with one stating, "I could not fault the care for my loved one. They go above and beyond."

Residents and their families appreciated the care home's well-maintained environment and the diverse range of activities available, including fitness sessions and organized outings. One relative noted, "It feels like being at home," underscoring the welcoming atmosphere that has been cultivated under new management.

Ally Prince, chief operating officer of Care Dorset, commended the efforts of The Lawns' manager, Michelle, who has been pivotal in leading the team back to excellence. Despite some areas still needing improvement, particularly in medicines management, the overall progress is a significant milestone for the care home and its residents. This turnaround not only offers comfort to the families but also highlights the resilience and dedication of the staff.
