Welsh Nursery Shines Bright with Impressive Inspection Results
Wibli Wobli, a Welsh-medium nursery located in Newport, has recently garnered praise for its exceptional care and management during its first inspection by Estyn and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). The nursery received a “good” rating across all key areas, showcasing a commitment to developing a nurturing environment for young children.
A Commitment to Quality Care
The nursery's inspection report highlighted numerous strengths, stating that "many strengths" were noted, and there were no areas of non-compliance or significant weaknesses. Most children appeared happy and settled quickly, benefiting from a structured routine and positive relationships with staff and peers. Wibli Wobli currently cares for around 150 children, offering services that cater to children aged 0 to 5 years, including funded early education spots for eligible three and four-year-olds.
Emphasizing Welsh Language Development
As the only Welsh-language nursery for babies under two, Wibli Wobli is dedicated to supporting language development among young children. During play activities, many children demonstrated a natural use of Welsh words, enhancing their linguistic skills. The nursery employs a play-based learning approach, incorporating imaginative role play and experimental activities that encourage early mathematical and scientific thinking.
Resilience and Growth Post-Challenges
Following a devastating fire that destroyed its previous location in early 2024, Wibli Wobli has shown remarkable resilience and growth. With support from Business Wales and funding, owner Natasha Baker successfully reopened in a new facility at Cleppa Park. The nursery has not only reopened but has also expanded its services to a second site in Roath, Cardiff, offering care for older children as well.
Wibli Wobli's focus on nurturing through language and play is clearly resonating with the community, as demand for Welsh-medium childcare continues to rise. The positive outcomes from their recent inspection signal a bright future ahead for the nursery and the families it serves.
