Unveiling Kindness: Refugee Children Inspire with Their Heartfelt Stories
A beautiful initiative has emerged from the experiences of seven refugee and asylum-seeker children in the UK, culminating in the publication of a heartwarming book titled "Allah Loves Kindness." This inspiring collection of stories delves into the essence of kindness as understood by these young authors, who have transformed their personal journeys of displacement into a message of hope and generosity.
The Power of Storytelling
The children's book was developed in collaboration with Zubeda Welcome, a charity dedicated to supporting refugee children and aiding them in embracing their Muslim identity. Led by Atia Lokhat, a primary school teacher and children's author, the project had children stirring their thoughts and reflections on kindness through guided writing sessions. Lokhat explains, “I was so impressed by how the children linked their favorite Quranic verses to stories of kindness towards others and the world around them.”
Creating a Legacy of Kindness
These children, often on the receiving end of societal biases, have shown remarkable resilience as they share narratives that will inspire compassion in others. The book embodies Zubeda Welcome’s mission to empower young refugees with Islamic education and holistic support. As stated by Lokhat, “Our mission guides us in providing refugee and asylum seeker children in the UK with access to Islamic education and holistic support to help them retain their Muslim identity.”
Going Beyond Words
In a personal touch, Lokhat has also contributed her reflections in the book, sharing the influence of her mother's charitable practices on her life and work. By selling Sadaqah jars alongside the book, they are encouraging families to develop charitable giving habits, exemplifying a commitment to fostering compassion and generosity at home.
A Circular Movement of Giving
Proceeds from both the book and the jars will directly benefit Zubeda Welcome’s initiatives for displaced children in the UK. Lokhat emphasizes the full circle of kindness: “Zubeda Welcome supported these seven children. Now they are using their stories to give back to support other children like them.” Through this endeavor, a powerful legacy of kindness is being written, one story at a time, serving as a beacon of hope and empathy for all.
