Transforming Youth: The Impact of the Junior Good Citizen Initiative

The Junior Good Citizen (JGC) initiative is making significant strides in uplifting the youth of Swindon and Wiltshire. In June 2026 alone, nearly 3,800 young people participated in this transformative program, equipping them with essential safety knowledge as they prepare to embark on their secondary school journey.

Empowering the Next Generation

Delivered by Wiltshire Police’s Youth and Early Intervention Team, the JGC program aims to empower these young individuals by making them informed about various critical topics. From internet safety to healthy relationships and mental health awareness, the curriculum covers vital areas that help children navigate real-world challenges. Notably, sessions in Swindon allowed 2,259 children from 47 schools to engage interactively, ensuring they not only learn but actively participate.

Community Collaboration that Yields Results

A local teacher praised the program for exemplifying effective community collaboration. The integration of local partners alongside neighbourhood policing teams has fostered trust and ensured that the sessions are tailored to address specific community issues. The positive feedback from schools, parents, and students alike underlines the ongoing success and necessity of this initiative, which is quickly approaching its 40th anniversary.

A Bright Future Ahead

As the JGC initiative continues to thrive, it remains a beacon of hope for the youth, instilling confidence, kindness, and responsibility among participants. With strong support from the Wiltshire Police and the community, the program is paving the way for a safer and more knowledgeable generation, ready to take on the future.
