In a remarkable display of resilience and community spirit, Churchtown Primary School from Southport has been honored with the prestigious Inspiring Play Award at the 2026 Youth Sport Trust Awards. This recognition comes in the wake of the tragic loss of two of its pupils, Alice da Silva Aguiar and Bebe King, in a horrifying incident nearly two years ago.
A Playground of Hope
Since the devastating events, the school has transformed its grief into positive action. Through an extraordinary effort led by students, Churchtown Primary successfully raised £380,000, which has been dedicated to constructing a new playground in memory of Alice and Bebe. This outdoor space is designed to enhance unstructured, child-led play, fostering joy and creativity among students.
