Transforming Spaces: How Northern Lights is Shaping Liverpool's Creative Scene

The Baltic Triangle in Liverpool is witnessing a remarkable transformation, thanks to the efforts of Baltic Creative CIC and their recent project, Northern Lights. This arts and community-focused initiative has successfully reawakened 45,000 square feet of disused warehouses at Cains Brewery Village, turning them into a dynamic hub for artists and creative enterprises.

A Catalyst for Change

Northern Lights, founded with a substantial investment of £310,000 from the Social Investment Business Loan and £90,000 from Baltic Creative's own funds, has been instrumental in not only revitalizing the physical space but also in fostering a thriving creative economy in the area. Over the past nine years, the project has supported a diverse range of businesses and hosted numerous events, further cementing the Baltic Triangle as an emerging cultural destination.

Community and Opportunity

The project has not only provided a home for artists and creative professionals, but it also paved the way for the arrival of notable operators like Boxpark, the Jacaranda, and Baltic Market, which collectively draw thousands of visitors weekly. Despite the official handover of management to Dusanj Real Estate, all existing tenants, including The Royal Standard gallery and Ryde Coffee, remain active contributors to the community, ensuring continuity and stability within this bustling neighborhood.

Looking Forward

Lynn Haime, CEO of Baltic Creative CIC, expressed pride in the project's achievements, highlighting its role in the transformation of the Baltic Triangle. The transfer of management not only marks the end of an era but also signifies a new chapter filled with potential for more creative initiatives. As plans for future projects are being explored, the commitment to nurturing Liverpool's creative identity remains strong.

Ajmail Dusanj, Director at Dusanj Real Estate, shares a similar vision, emphasizing the importance of supporting existing tenants while attracting new partnerships that will enhance the area's vibrancy. With the momentum created by Northern Lights, there is great optimism about the future development of the Baltic Triangle as a beacon of creativity, enterprise, and community engagement.
