Transforming Lives: Louisiana Reach Haiti Celebrates Baptisms and Freedom from Slavery

This Easter weekend marked a momentous occasion for Louisiana Reach Haiti (LRH) as they celebrated the baptism of four teenagers, symbolizing their new lives in Christ. The event, held in collaboration with the Baptist Church of the Disciples, showcased the profound impact of the LRH mission and the dedication of its staff.

A Milestone Moment: Baptisms of New Believers

The baptism ceremony, attended by approximately 30 individuals, was a culmination of years of nurturing and support for these young residents of LRH. Darrin Badon, LRH President, expressed his gratitude to those who played a role in this transformative journey. “The baptisms were a great way to symbolize they died to their old selves and were made new to the Lord,” he stated, highlighting the significance of this spiritual milestone for the youths.

New Beginnings: New Life Academy

As these four young individuals transition into adulthood, they have moved to a nearby house that will house the New Life Academy, a vocational school aimed at empowering the next generation of Haitian youth. This initiative underscores LRH's commitment to developing mature, self-sufficient adults who can thrive in their communities. “Our heart is to reunify kids to their families, but we always knew we wouldn’t reunify every child,” said Badon, emphasizing the continuous effort to nurture these young adults.

Rescue and Rehabilitation: A Second Chance

The weekend festivities also brought news of another significant achievement: the rescue of a 14-year-old girl from slavery. Having endured five years of hard labor, her freedom marks a turning point in her life. Badon noted, “It’s been a God-thing to see her transformed from a girl held captive, abused, and neglected to one who now experiences the love and compassion of Christ.” This rescue not only highlights LRH's mission to combat human trafficking but also reflects the organization's unwavering belief in second chances.

A Journey of Impact

Since its inception, LRH has faced numerous challenges, including gang-related violence. However, the organization has adapted its strategies and continues to impact lives in Haiti positively. With the support of mission teams and local partnerships, LRH remains focused on providing care, education, and liberation to those in need. To support LRH's crucial mission, donations and involvement opportunities are available through their website.
