Transforming Futures: Ards and North Down Borough Council's Inspiring Employment Fairs

This February, Ards and North Down Borough Council has made significant strides in boosting local employment opportunities through two successful events: the Jobs, Support and Training Fair and the Apprenticeship Careers Fair. These events, which attracted residents of all ages, were designed to provide tailored support, connect job seekers with live opportunities, and present practical pathways to employment.

A Strong Community Response

Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum, celebrated the accomplishments of these fairs, emphasizing their role in linking individuals with meaningful job prospects. "Both events have been incredibly successful in connecting people with real opportunities," she stated, highlighting the efforts made to support not just the unemployed, but also those looking to change their career trajectories.

Empowering Individuals Through Direct Engagement

The Jobs, Support and Training Fair, which featured 53 exhibitors focusing on the Health and Social Care sector, provided vital connections between attendees and employers offering vacancies. Participants received crucial guidance on CV writing, interview skills, and identifying personal strengths, significantly boosting their confidence in pursuing new career paths.

Apprenticeships: A Pathway to Professional Growth

Similarly, the Apprenticeship Careers Fair enlightened school pupils, job seekers, and career changers about apprenticeship opportunities across diverse fields such as engineering, technology, and public services. With 33 employers and educational providers present, attendees were able to gather insights on the necessary skills and qualifications, underscoring the accessible nature of apprenticeships as a viable means of earning while learning.

Looking Ahead: Continued Commitment to Employment

The success of these events is part of the Council's ongoing dedication to enhancing employability and skills development within the community. With the next initiative scheduled for March 19 at the Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing and Leisure Complex, the Council aims to sustain this momentum and further assist residents in navigating their career pathways. “By supporting people into work and helping them access skills development, we are strengthening both our local economy and the future resilience of our communities,” added Mayor McCollum.

As these initiatives unfold, the commitment to fostering a vibrant workforce continues, proving that with the right support and resources, communities can thrive economically and socially.
