Success Stories: Ards and North Down's Employability Events Empower Job Seekers

This February, Ards and North Down Borough Council marked a significant milestone in its commitment to employment support through two highly successful events: the Jobs, Support and Training Fair and the Apprenticeship Careers Fair. These initiatives aimed to connect residents with valuable job opportunities and training resources, fostering a stronger community and economy.

Connecting People with Opportunities

The Jobs, Support and Training Fair attracted an impressive 53 exhibitors, primarily focusing on the Health and Social Care sector. Participants were able to engage directly with employers who offered live job vacancies. Alongside these opportunities, support agencies provided crucial resources such as CV guidance and interview preparation, enabling attendees to feel more confident in their job search processes. Many individuals reported feeling more empowered to make the next steps in their careers thanks to the hands-on advice and resources available.

Apprenticeships: A Pathway to Learning

The Apprenticeship Careers Fair served as an essential platform for school pupils, job seekers, and career changers. With 33 employers and training organizations in attendance, participants learned about various apprenticeship routes across multiple sectors including engineering, finance, hospitality, and more. These apprenticeships not only provide an opportunity to earn while learning but also represent a crucial step in reshaping individuals’ career trajectories. Advisors on site were ready to assist those interested in upskilling or retraining, emphasizing that a fulfilling career is within reach for everyone.

A Commitment to Future Growth

Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum, expressed her enthusiasm about the events, stating that their success demonstrates a clear need for practical support in the community. She extended her gratitude towards all employers and support organizations involved, highlighting their roles in creating a positive and informative experience for residents. McCollum emphasized that initiatives like these not only help individuals find work but also contribute to bolstering the local economy and enhancing community resilience.

As part of the ongoing Labour Market Partnerships, which focus on creating targeted employment action plans, the upcoming initiative scheduled for March 19, 11am-2pm, at the Ards Blair Mayne Wellbeing and Leisure Complex promises to continue this momentum.
