Stay Active and Hydrated: A Community Initiative That Promotes Wellbeing

In an inspiring move to enhance community health and wellbeing, Worcestershire County Council is launching a series of weekly sessions designed to keep residents active and hydrated. These sessions not only provide a platform for individuals to come together but also emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle as we age.

Upcoming Sessions Focused on Vital Aspects of Health

Starting from Tuesday, May 5, the theme will focus on hydration, educating attendees on the critical role of water intake in supporting mental and physical health. This session targets the necessity of hydration, especially as we get older—a topic that's often overlooked but is crucial for our overall wellbeing.

Following the hydration theme, the week beginning May 11 will shift to everyday movement. This segment will discuss Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT), highlighting simple yet effective ways to integrate movement into daily routines. Residents will learn valuable tips to enhance health and maintain energy levels without the need for strenuous exercise.

Accessible Fitness: Building Community Wellness

From May 18, the focus will turn to home fitness, inspired by the NHS's Better Health initiative. This part of the program will offer easy, no-equipment exercise routines that can be done at home, making fitness accessible to everyone, regardless of their situation or location.

Councillor Satinder Bell, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing at Worcestershire County Council, emphasizes the importance of movement and hydration by stating, “Moving your body and drinking enough water are both essential to feeling good as you get older. Exercise helps us age well, and it is much more enjoyable when you do it with other people.”

A Warm and Welcoming Environment

These Healthy Worcestershire sessions are open to all, ensuring inclusivity and community spirit. With light exercise, friendly conversation, and a cup of tea on offer, the sessions promise not just physical activity but also an opportunity to connect with others. Best of all, the sessions are completely free and do not require prior booking, allowing for easy access for anyone interested.

Running weekly at over 30 venues across Worcestershire, and with online options available for remote participation, residents are encouraged to find their nearest session by visiting the Healthy Worcestershire website. This initiative, funded by the Worcestershire County Council Public Health team, represents a significant step towards fostering a healthier and more connected community.
