Southend has once again become a canvas for creativity as the Southend City Jam festival welcomes over 200 artists from around the world. This annual event, renowned as one of the UK's largest street art festivals, commenced on Friday and has transformed the city into a lively open-air gallery, celebrating art, community, and the positive vibes that define this unique gathering.

Miguel Cuar, an artist from Spain now residing in London, expressed his admiration for the festival, stating, "They have managed to build a festival that gives a space to a lot of people, and I think that is positive."

Cuar's mural, reflecting on personal growth and potential, resonates with many attendees. He articulated, "The inspiration behind my piece of art is about the potential each human has and how they should try to reach that potential." Edward Nottingham, known as Ed209, praised the inviting atmosphere, saying, "It’s quite a nice, friendly scene. You can travel around to the various events and meet people." Artists are embracing their surroundings, as evidenced by newcomer Owen, also known as Humble Cherub, who dedicated his piece to the local estuary. "I wanted to create something related to the area," he shared. Meanwhile, others are drawing on personal histories to inspire their work, such as The Last One, who created a nostalgic piece rooted in childhood memories, showcasing the deeply personal nature of art.
