Shining a Spotlight on Kindness: Colchester's Good Neighbour Awards Open for Nominations
The spirit of community and kindness is set to be celebrated once again in Colchester with the launch of the annual Good Neighbour Awards 2026. Organized by Colchester Borough Homes, these awards aim to recognize and honor the unsung heroes who contribute positively to the lives of others through simple yet impactful everyday actions.
Recognizing the Everyday Heroes
The Good Neighbour Awards serve as a reminder of the strength and caring nature of communities. Philip Sullivan, chief executive of Colchester Borough Homes, emphasized the importance of recognizing those who, through their everyday acts of kindness, make a lasting difference. Whether it’s helping with grocery shopping, walking dogs, or simply offering a listening ear, these nominees embody the best of Colchester.
Categories and Nominations
This year, awards will be presented in several categories, including Community Champion, Older Persons Champion, Good Neighbour Award, Younger Persons Champion, Home Carer Award, and Best Garden Award. Nominations are currently open, allowing residents to nominate individuals or groups who have had a significant impact on their community. Winners will not only receive £100 in vouchers but will also be celebrated at a special ceremony later this year.
Colchester Borough Homes encourages community members to participate in this uplifting initiative, with nominations accepted online, by phone, or through email requests for a nomination form. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, 2 June 2026, making this the perfect opportunity for residents to acknowledge those who help create a more connected and caring Colchester.
