Revolutionizing Women's Narratives: A Groundbreaking Exhibition in Chichester
The Novium Museum in Chichester is set to launch an inspiring new exhibition titled "ChichestHER: Their Story, Our Inspiration" in October 2026. This innovative showcase aims to celebrate the lives and contributions of women associated with the district, bringing forth untold stories to educate and inspire the community.
Community-Driven Development
Funded by a generous £117,266 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, this exhibition will not only highlight women's achievements but will also engage local residents in its development. Amanda Rogan, manager of The Novium Museum and Tourist Information Centre, emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, "We want to hear from local people as we develop it, so that the exhibition reflects the community and speaks to the people who live here now."
Participate and Contribute
To facilitate community input, the museum is hosting a focus group on May 8, where individuals can share ideas and feedback on the exhibition’s content and design. This initiative is an excellent opportunity for those interested in women’s history and local narratives to contribute their voices and perspectives, fostering a sense of ownership and connection to the exhibition.
A Rich Tapestry of Stories
"ChichestHER" promises to weave together research, oral histories, community collaborations, and creative expressions, presenting a comprehensive view of women's lives across Chichester District. By engaging the community in this manner, the exhibition seeks to ensure that the stories told are reflective of the current generation, as well as honoring the women who paved the way for future advancements.
This project is not merely an exhibition; it is a movement to honor and elevate women's stories, encouraging dialogue and education within the community. As we look forward to its unveiling, we anticipate a profound impact on how women's contributions to society are recognized and celebrated.
