Residents Transform a Senior Home into a High-Fashion Glamour Studio
In a heartwarming display of creativity and joy, residents at Maplewood Court, located just outside London, experienced a magical afternoon that made them feel 20 years younger. Thanks to the innovative efforts of the facility’s ‘Lifestyle Team,’ the 72 residents were treated to an extravagant photoshoot featuring high-fashion wigs, colorful clothing, and plenty of glamour.
A Day of Fun and Fashion
The spirited event was ignited by the team members Laura Taylor and Jo Morgan, who were inspired by a viral social media video. They organized an exciting wardrobe of flower-studded wigs, oversized sunglasses, hats, and striking pearls, which had the residents buzzing with anticipation. “There was such a buzz in the home,” noted Taylor, emphasizing their desire to let the residents express themselves through extravagant attire.
Renewed Spirits and Joy
The event provided not only a visual transformation but also a renewed sense of vitality among the participants. Centenarian Hilda Howes expressed her delight, saying, “I loved it, they made me look 80, instead of 100! It was so much fun to dress up in all the bright clothes.” Such sentiments echoed throughout the facility, lifting the spirits of everyone involved.
Community Efforts Shine
Employees contributed various accessories, from jewelry to scarves, enhancing the glamorous atmosphere. Care assistant Deb Eve took charge of make-up, ensuring everyone looked their absolute best, while Morgan captured the joyful moments on camera with the help of her daughter. “We were thrilled that everyone was so keen to get dressed up,” Morgan remarked. “The whole thing lifted everyone’s mood; it was wonderful to see.”
Memories to Cherish
Looking ahead, the Lifestyle Team plans to print the photos for residents to keep in their rooms, and a photo exhibition for the lobby is in the works, allowing the joyous memories of that day to live on. Resident Violet Syers expressed her excitement, stating, “I’ll be able to look at it every day and see how fabulous I looked.” This event not only showcased the residents' playful side but also highlighted the power of community and creativity in enhancing the lives of seniors.
