Renfrewshire Schools Lead the Way in Empowering Young People for a Brighter Future
Renfrewshire has achieved an impressive milestone, with nearly 98% of school leavers transitioning into positive destinations such as apprenticeships, further training, university, college, or employment. This remarkable statistic positions Renfrewshire joint second among Scotland's 32 council areas, demonstrating significant progress from fifth place last year and tenth in 2024.
A Strong Commitment to Education and Career Pathways
This achievement is a product of Renfrewshire Council's dedicated efforts in strengthening collaborations between schools and local organizations. The council has partnered with several key entities, including Skills Development Scotland and the Renfrewshire Local Employability Partnership, to facilitate career pathways and vocational opportunities for young people. Through initiatives like the Career Ready programme, which provides valuable coaching and mentoring, students receive essential support as they transition into their future careers.
Innovative Programs and Pilot Initiatives
In addition to existing programs, the launch of the Renfrewshire Pathfinders programme in September 2024 further underscores the council's commitment to youth empowerment. This initiative offers integrated work placements, qualifications, and additional support tailored to help young people successfully navigate the transition from education to employment or further education.
Leadership and Vision for the Future
Councillor Emma Rodden, the education convener, expressed pride in the accomplishments of Renfrewshire’s education teams, emphasizing the importance of building robust partnerships with employers and colleges. She highlighted that the focus on listening to young people's needs has been pivotal in shaping relevant services that enable success. “We will continue to work hard for our young people and support them into positive, sustained destinations that meet their needs and aspirations,” she stated.
This collective effort not only reflects a commitment to addressing the needs of young people but also sets a precedent for other regions to follow. Renfrewshire is leading the way in creating a supportive environment that helps its youth thrive and succeed in their endeavors.
