A Weymouth care home has recently been recognized for its outstanding improvements by receiving a "Good" rating from inspectors after a challenging period marked by warning notices. The Lawns care home, situated on Fernhill Avenue, now provides a supportive environment for up to 41 elderly residents, including those living with dementia.
Significant Improvements Noted
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) conducted their assessment from July 9 to July 21, leading to a resounding positive review of the home's services. After addressing safety, dignity, and governance concerns initially raised in September 2024, all four breaches were resolved, marking a major turnaround for the facility.
Positive Feedback from Families
Family members have expressed their satisfaction with the care provided. One relative remarked, "I could not fault the care for my loved one. They go above and beyond. My loved one is happy to be there." This sentiment of safety and commendable care is echoed by others, highlighting the home's commitment to nurturing a supportive environment.
Acknowledged by Inspectors
The inspectors praised the staff’s professionalism, noting that residents received safe care from well-trained employees who understood the importance of safeguarding. The report also highlighted good relationships with healthcare professionals and effective care systems.
Atmosphere and Activities Enhanced
Relatives highlighted the positive atmosphere at The Lawns, with one family member stating, "It feels like being at home. There is nothing I would change." Moreover, the variety of activities, including fitness sessions and organized outings, was well-received, demonstrating the home's dedication to holistic care.

Ally Prince, chief operating officer at Care Dorset, commended The Lawns’ manager, Michelle, whose leadership was instrumental in the transformation of the care home. "It's fantastic news and I'm thrilled for everyone but most importantly the people we support and their families," stated Prince, reflecting the impact these improvements have on residents’ well-being.
Despite the positive report, the CQC advised that further enhancements in medications management are still needed. Nonetheless, the care home's journey from a previous rating of Requires Improvement to a commendable "Good" is an inspiring story of resilience and commitment to elderly care.
