New Academy in Basingstoke Set to Transform Careers and Skills
The AA has recently inaugurated a cutting-edge training academy in Basingstoke, marking a significant investment in enhancing its patrol workforce. This state-of-the-art facility is poised to provide modern training for roadside patrols and mobile mechanics, accommodating around 50 trainees each month depending on demand.
A Purpose-Built Learning Environment
Spanning over 15,521 sq ft across two storeys, the new academy features an indoor workshop, training rooms, meeting spaces, and staff facilities. Its design incorporates feedback from employees, aiming to foster a flexible and energy-efficient environment for learning. Additionally, the academy houses a display area for part of the AA's heritage fleet and archives, blending contemporary training methods with a celebration of the organization’s rich history.
Career Development and Community Impact
Dean Keeling, managing director of AA Roadside Services, emphasized that the academy will enhance learning and foster career growth for employees. He stated, “Our new training academy gives patrols a modern, practical space to help accelerate their learning experience as they join The AA or develop their careers with us.”
The investment is seen not only as a benefit to the company but also to the wider workforce, with additional improvements planned at its Oldbury site. Local MP Luke Murphy has lauded this development, calling it a significant boost for jobs and skills in the region. He remarked, “Training new patrols each month and expanding opportunities for mobile mechanics will help people learn skills, build careers and stay working locally.”
