A Life Well-Lived

Born on February 13, 1920, Kath has seen the world transform around her. From her humble beginnings on Garner Street to holding esteemed positions during her working life at the Munitions Factory and The Bird's Eye Factory—where she rose to the rank of head girl—she has always approached life with determination. During the Second World War, her contributions were pivotal; she was responsible for assembling vital components for grenades, reflecting her commitment not just to her family, with two nephews serving in the military, but to her entire country.

A Celebration Filled with Love

Her recent birthday bash was marked not just by family and friends, but also by a special commemorative card from Buckingham Palace, which visibly moved her. "Isn't it gorgeous? I'll put this on my wall," Kath exclaimed, showcasing her deep appreciation for the thoughtful gesture from King Charles III.

Family Legacy and Lasting Joy

With her late husband Frank Wood serving in the Royal Air Force, Kath has nurtured a loving family, including two daughters, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Her philosophy on life remains straightforward yet profound: "I just love life and the people in it. I've never really been miserable," she shared, reminding us of the beauty of positivity amidst challenges.

Kath's reflections on Grimsby, her lifelong home, reveal a strong attachment to her roots: "I've enjoyed living here... Grimsby is definitely my favourite place. I wouldn't swap it for the world." Her spirit serves as a reminder of the importance of gratitude and enjoying the simple pleasures, such as art, reading, and writing—which continue to be her passions at this remarkable age.
