In a heartwarming initiative, the Forever Fresh collective, comprised of female DJs all over the age of 60, is turning heads and shaking dance floors after a recent festival in Cologne, Germany. This remarkable group was born out of the C/O Festival's desire to engage older demographics, filling a noticeable gap in the music scene where women over 60 often feel overlooked.
A New Beat for Older Women
The idea was sparked during a summer booking meeting, where festival organizers realized the lack of inclusive opportunities for senior women in the music industry. With a simple query sent out to find interested participants, many women stepped forward to explore the exciting world of DJing, despite having limited experience with technology.
Defying Age: The Empowering Journey of DJing
DJ Sedaction, one of the instructors involved in the program, expressed the appeal of this challenge: "Several women said they hadn’t faced something this demanding in years—and that’s exactly why it was so exciting." Among the group is the remarkable DJ Miss Crazy Irma, the oldest member at 90 years old. Despite using a walker in her daily life, she revives her spirit on stage, dancing with energy and enthusiasm that inspires everyone around her.
Breaking Boundaries and Building Community
Since its inception in April 2025, the Forever Fresh collective has entertained audiences at seven gigs, including the memorable festival in late April. The benefits of dancing extend beyond entertainment, significantly enhancing the performers' mental and physical health, while fostering a vibrant community atmosphere. Uschi Ophir, the youngest member at 64, noted the unexpected excitement from younger audiences, saying, “It’s exciting because we thought only our families and friends would come. But the younger people were amazing!”

The eclectic setlist featured popular hits, including EDM tracks from David Guetta and classics like "Dancing Queen" from Abba. The music resonated with audiences of all ages, drawing praise from partygoers who were mesmerized by the energy and enthusiasm of the performers. “To be honest, it was fantastic,” one attendee shared. “I really didn’t expect it to be so captivating.”
