Marks & Spencer Takes Bold Step to Combat Food Waste with New Bakery Initiative

In a commendable effort to reduce food waste and provide customers with affordable treats, Marks & Spencer (M&S) has announced the launch of a new partnership with the food waste initiative Too Good to Go. This initiative will debut in several Greater Manchester stores, marking a significant move towards sustainability and community engagement.

Exciting Collaboration with Too Good to Go

Starting from September 14, M&S will introduce "Surprise Bags" filled with surplus bakery products, available through the Too Good To Go app. These bags will include an enticing assortment of pastries, cookies, and bread, baked in their stores. Priced at just £3.80, each bag offers bakery items that would normally retail for a minimum of £10.20, providing exceptional value to customers while simultaneously addressing food waste.

Available Locations and Convenience for Shoppers

The initiative will be accessible from nine M&S locations in Greater Manchester, including popular spots such as the Trafford Centre and Bolton Middlebrook. Customers can conveniently order via the Too Good To Go app and pick up their surprise bags just one hour before the store closes, making it a seamless experience to enjoy high-quality bakery items.

Commitment to Sustainability

M&S's Store Manager at Bolton Middlebrook, Chris Parker, expressed enthusiasm for the launch, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in reducing food waste. The initiative aligns with M&S's broader Plan A program, which aims to halve food waste by the year 2030. This proactive approach not only benefits shoppers but also promotes a more sustainable future.

The Bigger Picture

As Chelsea Kerr, Managing Director at Too Good To Go UK & Ireland, noted, collaborating with beloved brands like M&S exemplifies how businesses can play a crucial role in tackling the food waste crisis. By allowing surplus food to be enjoyed rather than discarded, this partnership encourages a culture of sustainability and offers rewarding experiences to consumers.

This initiative is not just about saving money; it is about making a positive impact on the community and the environment. M&S and Too Good to Go are setting a commendable example for others in the industry to follow, showing that conscious efforts to reduce waste can also create a win-win situation for both businesses and consumers.
