Lumo Takes a Stand: Celebrating Diversity and New Opportunities in the Rail Industry

In a remarkable achievement, rail operator Lumo has been honored as the ‘Best Small Employer’ at the annual Proud Scotland Awards. This accolade comes at a significant time as the country kicks off Pride Month, showcasing Lumo's unwavering commitment to diversity and equality within the workplace.

Championing Pride

As part of their initiative to support LGBTQ+ communities, Lumo has announced an expanded partnership with various Pride events throughout the year. These include Glasgow's Pride, Stirling Pride, Pride Edinburgh, and Pride in Gateshead. Moreover, Lumo’s role as a headline partner for the Proud Scotland Awards emphasizes their dedication to fostering an inclusive environment not only within their company but also across Scotland as a whole.

Innovative Changes in the Workplace

Last year, Lumo made strides toward inclusivity by introducing gender-neutral uniforms for their Customer Experience Ambassadors. This initiative exemplifies Lumo's goal of creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for all employees and customers on its affordable and sustainable East Coast Main Line services.

Creating Jobs and Expanding Connections

The launch of Lumo’s new West Coast Main Line service in May has led to the creation of approximately 100 new jobs. This new route, which connects Stirling to London Euston, offers vital stops at key locations, enhancing accessibility and connectivity across the UK. Lumo's commitment to expansion and community engagement is further highlighted by their partnership with Pride Radio, which included live broadcasts and exciting giveaways, engaging listeners and promoting the new rail service.

A Vision for the Future

Jen Clare, Service Delivery Director at Lumo, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for being recognized for its efforts towards equality and diversity. Clare stated, “This year is a particularly special one for us, as we continue to expand with new routes and new opportunities to stand proudly in support of LGBTQ+ communities and welcome everyone onboard.” Such sentiments echo the importance of inclusivity within corporate culture, particularly in a diverse society.

As Lumo continues to uphold its core values of accessibility and positive change, the rail operator not only reinforces its position as a top-performing service provider but also as a leader in community support and enhancement. Peter Ferguson, Event Director at the Proud Scotland Awards, further acknowledged Lumo’s significant contribution to the event, solidifying their role as a catalyst for celebrating excellence and diversity in Scotland.
