Local Man Celebrates 100 Years with Wisdom and New Challenges

In a heartwarming event that exemplifies resilience and the joy of life, William Watts, a resident of Deewater Grange in Huntington, recently celebrated his remarkable 100th birthday. Surrounded by family, friends, and plenty of cake, William shared his secret to longevity: a dash of good luck. His wit and humor shine through as he reflects on his life and the importance of family connections.
A Century of Memories
Born in Preston and raised in Ellesmere Port, William has lived a life rich in experiences, primarily shaped by his career as a structural and civil engineer, and later as a business owner. His marriage to Joan in 1949 marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership that lasted until her passing in 2019. Together, they raised three children and welcomed a growing lineage, now including six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Commitment to Lifelong Learning
William's journey is a testament to the power of lifelong learning. Despite having considered German his weakest subject in school, he has decided to embrace this challenge in his centenary year. "Now, in his centenary year, he’s taken on the challenge of learning German," explained Donna Howard, the home manager at Deewater Grange. This determination not only reflects his tenacious spirit but also serves as an inspiring example for others.
A Celebration of Community
Celebrating milestones in the lives of residents is a core value at Deewater Grange. Donna noted, "William is a wonderful member of our community, witty, wise, and always up for a good chat." His infectious spirit and commitment to learning have not only enriched his own life but also positively influenced those around him.
This centennial celebration is a reminder that age does not limit one's capacity for growth and connection. William Watts stands as a beacon of hope, illustrating that with a positive outlook and strong family ties, one can continue to thrive, no matter the age.
