Local Businesses Shine with Impressive Food Hygiene Ratings

In a remarkable showcase of food safety, Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) has reported a significant achievement in food hygiene ratings across the borough. Over the past year, more than 550 inspections revealed that an impressive 93% of local food establishments have earned either a five or four-star rating. This accomplishment reflects the hard work and dedication of both the Environmental Health Team and local business owners devoted to maintaining high hygiene standards.

Success Rates and Community Efforts

The recent inspections, which included 196 new business registrations in 2024/2025, highlighted that 97% of the premises were compliant with hygiene standards. Such statistics underscore the ongoing commitment to public health and safety, fostering confidence among consumers regarding the quality of food they are consuming.

Celebrating Achievements in Food Safety

A notable highlight from these inspections was the recent celebration at the Lanka Dragon, a newly renovated Chinese takeaway on Loughborough Road. The owner, Shakeel Farhan, was commended for achieving a five-star hygiene rating. Farhan expressed gratitude towards the Environmental Health Team, acknowledging their encouragement and invaluable guidance throughout the process. This positive reinforcement not only motivated his team but also enhanced their operations following recent renovations.

A Commitment to Excellence

Cllr Rob Inglis, RBC’s Portfolio Holder for Environment & Safety, emphasized the council's determination to increase the number of food hygiene inspections each year. He stated, “We aim to demonstrate our commitment to protecting the public by ensuring food safety across Rushcliffe.” This proactive approach reflects the council's dedication to community welfare and the promotion of safe food practices.

The findings and achievements reported by RBC serve as a beacon of encouragement for existing and new food businesses. By adhering to these hygiene standards, local establishments not only enhance their reputation but also contribute significantly to public health and safety. For anyone considering a new food venture, RBC encourages seeking advice early on, ensuring a smooth path to achieving the highest hygiene rating possible.
