Liverpool FC Shines Bright at the Women’s Football Awards
Liverpool Football Club (LFC) and the LFC Foundation have recently made headlines for their impactful dedication to promoting gender inclusion in football. At the 2026 Women’s Football Awards, they were awarded the prestigious Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award, celebrating their ongoing commitment to fostering a more equitable game for all.
An Innovative Approach to Inclusion
In line with the club's sustainability strategy, known as The Red Way, gender inclusion has become a fundamental priority for Liverpool FC. Collaborating with Her Game Too, Liverpool FC launched a pioneering campaign aimed at combating sexism and misogyny in football. This initiative has seen over 100 staff members receive specialized training to ensure a supportive and welcoming environment for all women attending matches at Anfield.
Empowering Female Voices in Football
In an effort to elevate female representation in the sport, Liverpool FC has been active on social media platforms, successfully reaching a wide audience through collaborations with firms like Google Pixel, Wasabi, and AXA, which cumulatively generated a vast outreach of 14 million and over 14,000 hours of viewing time.
Fostering Future Leaders in the Game
Internally, Liverpool FC has prioritized opportunities for women in football by joining the Women in Football membership program. The club is dedicated to nurturing its female workforce through various workshops, mentoring sessions, and leadership opportunities, thereby establishing a positive and inclusive atmosphere. The LFC Foundation mirrors this commitment, creating pathways for women and girls in local communities, with focused programs that address gender disparities in sports.
Tackling Stereotypes through Engaging Initiatives
One standout initiative, ‘We Empower,’ has made significant strides by supporting nearly 1,000 young people last season, with an impressive 86% reporting enhanced confidence in confronting gender stereotypes. Programs like Premier League Kicks also play a crucial role in using football as a means for engagement, allowing young girls to develop skills and confidence in a safe setting.
Rishi Jain, the Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, emphasizes that this recognition is a testament to their ongoing mission to foster gender inclusivity. He states that while the club is proud of the progress made, they recognize the need for continual improvement in dismantling barriers and creating opportunities for women and girls both locally and globally.
The Women’s Football Awards also honored the late Matt Beard for his outstanding contributions to the women’s game, reflecting the collective effort within the sport to celebrate and uplift those striving for equality.
