Liverpool FC Leads the Charge for Gender Inclusion in Football

Liverpool Football Club and the LFC Foundation have made significant strides in promoting gender inclusion within football, earning recognition at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards. The club received the prestigious Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award, highlighting its ongoing commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable sport.

A Strategic Commitment to Inclusion

Gender inclusion remains a central focus under Liverpool FC's sustainability strategy, known as The Red Way. This long-term initiative aims to foster a better future for both the community and the environment.

In a groundbreaking step, Liverpool FC partnered with Her Game Too to launch a campaign addressing sexism and misogyny in football. Over 100 staff members completed specialized training before a key match to enhance the reporting and response to incidents, thereby ensuring that women feel safe and welcome at Anfield.

Amplifying Female Voices

The club's global social media initiatives have further bolstered female representation in football. Collaborations with major brands like Google Pixel and AXA have reached millions and have provided thousands of hours of visibility for women's football, amplifying female voices in the sport.

Empowering Women and Girls

Internally, the club remains dedicated to fostering opportunities for women and girls. Since joining the Women in Football membership program, Liverpool FC has been actively developing its female workforce through workshops, mentoring, and leadership initiatives.

Programs like ‘We Empower’ have played a critical role in supporting young people. Last season, 928 participants experienced a boost in confidence, with many learning to challenge gender stereotypes effectively. Football programs such as Premier League Kicks are also pivotal, engaging girls in a safe environment and helping them build essential skills and connections.

A Voice for Change

Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, emphasized the significance of this recognition, stating that it reflects the club's dedication to driving meaningful progress in gender inclusion. He acknowledged that while there has been substantial improvement, the club remains committed to challenging discrimination and expanding opportunities for women and girls both locally and globally.

The Women’s Football Awards also honored the legacy of Matt Beard, recognizing his deep commitment to advancing women’s football in the UK, thereby further cementing Liverpool FC's role as a leader in this vital area.
