Liverpool FC Champions Gender Equality in Football: A Recognition Worth Celebrating!

Liverpool Football Club and its foundation have taken a giant leap in promoting gender equality in sports. They received the prestigious Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards, acknowledging their relentless efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable environment in women's football.

Commitment to Inclusion

The club has incorporated gender inclusion as a central pillar of its sustainability strategy, known as The Red Way. This long-term commitment aims to foster a brighter future for individuals, communities, and the ecosystem. A key initiative in this laudable endeavor is the collaboration with Her Game Too, launching a trailblazing campaign to combat sexism and misogyny in football.

Empowering Women in Football

In preparation for a match against West Ham, over 100 staff members underwent specialized training. This initiative is designed to enhance the club's capacity to effectively respond to incidents, ensuring that all women feel safe and welcome at Anfield.

Moreover, Liverpool FC’s global social media outreach has elevated female voices, achieving an impressive reach of 14 million and over 14,000 hours of watch time through partnerships with major brands like Google Pixel and AXA.

Creating Opportunities

Internally, the club is dedicated to facilitating pathways for girls and women to advance in football. Since joining the Women in Football membership program, Liverpool FC has engaged in workshops and mentoring, aiming to cultivate a nurturing work environment for its female workforce.

The LFC Foundation is also at the forefront of empowering local women and girls. Initiatives, such as 'We Empower,' have helped 928 young participants in the past season, with an outstanding 86% reporting heightened confidence in challenging gender stereotypes. Furthermore, the Premier League Kicks program has provided invaluable experiences for 271 girls, using football as a medium for skill development and community engagement.

Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, expressed pride in the recognition received, stating it reflects the club's ongoing commitment to advancing gender inclusion. He emphasized that while significant progress has been made, there remains a concerted effort required to continue challenging discrimination and breaking down barriers for women and girls in football.

The Women’s Football Awards also honored the late Matt Beard for his substantial contributions to the women's game, showcasing the collective dedication to appreciating and uplifting women in sports.
