Liverpool FC Champions Gender Equality at Women’s Football Awards
Liverpool Football Club and the LFC Foundation have made significant strides in promoting gender equality within sports, as evidenced by their recognition at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards. The club and its foundation received the esteemed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award, a validation of their unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment in women's football.
Strategic Commitment to Inclusion
Under its sustainability strategy, known as The Red Way, Liverpool FC prioritizes gender inclusion as a key area of focus. The club launched a groundbreaking campaign in collaboration with Her Game Too to address sexism and misogyny in football, showcasing their dedication to ensuring that all women feel safe and welcome in the sport. This initiative saw more than 100 staff members complete specialized training to better respond to incidents of discrimination.
Amplifying Female Voices
The club has also been proactive in utilizing its global social media platforms to elevate female voices in football. Partnerships with companies like Google Pixel, Wasabi, and AXA have yielded impressive results, including a combined reach of 14 million and over 14,000 hours of viewership across content related to women's football.
Support for Women and Girls
Internally, Liverpool FC is dedicated to empowering girls and women to participate and advance within the game. Since joining the Women in Football membership program, the club has implemented workshops, mentoring, and leadership opportunities, with a focus on creating an inclusive and supportive environment. This commitment extends to the LFC Foundation, which works tirelessly to provide accessible pathways for women and girls in local communities.
Positive Impact Through Initiatives
Programs such as ‘We Empower’ have successfully supported 928 young individuals last season, with a striking 86% reporting an increase in confidence to challenge gender stereotypes. Initiatives like Premier League Kicks utilize football as a vehicle for personal development, with significant participation from girls, thereby building confidence and skills in a nurturing environment.
Acknowledging Contributions
The impact of these efforts was highlighted at the Women’s Football Awards, which also honored Matt Beard for his dedication to advancing women's football. Niamh Fahey, technical coordinator at LFC Women and former captain, received a posthumous award in his memory, signifying the enduring legacy of those committed to player development and the promotion of women’s football in the UK.
As Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, aptly stated, "This recognition reflects the ongoing work across the club and LFC Foundation to drive meaningful progress on gender inclusion." The club remains steadfast in its mission to challenge discrimination and create abundant opportunities for women and girls, striving to make football a welcoming space for all.
