Liverpool FC: A Beacon of Progress in Women’s Football

In a remarkable celebration of inclusivity and commitment to diversity, Liverpool Football Club and the LFC Foundation have been honored with the prestigious Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award at the 2026 Women’s Football Awards. This recognition highlights the significant strides both the club and the Foundation are making towards fostering a more equitable environment in women's football.

Championing Gender Inclusion

Under its sustainability strategy, The Red Way, Liverpool FC is firmly committed to promoting gender inclusion as a strategic priority. Their initiatives, particularly in partnership with Her Game Too, focus on eradicating sexism and misogyny in football. Recently, over 100 staff members completed specialized training designed to enhance their ability to respond to and report incidents, ensuring that women feel safe and supported at Anfield.

Empowering Female Voices

The club’s dedication to uplifting female voices in football extends to their global social media platforms, where collaborations with businesses like Google Pixel and AXA have generated an impressive reach of 14 million people. Furthermore, the club’s internal efforts to promote female participation through workshops and leadership programs are fostering a positive atmosphere for women in sports.

Creating Lasting Impact

The LFC Foundation is actively creating accessible pathways for women and girls through targeted programs such as 'We Empower', which focuses on building confidence and addressing gender disparities. This past season, 928 young people benefited from the program, with a remarkable 86% reporting increased confidence in confronting stereotypes. Additionally, initiatives like Premier League Kicks demonstrate how football can be an effective tool for personal development and engagement.

A Future of Possibilities

Rishi Jain, Director of Impact at Liverpool FC, encapsulated the sentiment of commitment shared across the club, stating, “This recognition reflects the ongoing work... to drive meaningful progress on gender inclusion.” With their ambitious goals, Liverpool FC not only aims to challenge existing barriers but also to create opportunities for women and girls at every level of the game. As they celebrate their achievements, the club acknowledges that the journey towards full equity in football is ongoing, and they remain steadfast in their mission.
