This past weekend, the vibrant and multicultural atmosphere of Leicester was fully on display as the annual Eid Festival made a triumphant return to Victoria Park. Celebrated over three days from March 20 to March 22, the festival, organized by Leicester Community Assist, brought together families from across Leicestershire for a joyous celebration filled with fun, food, and community spirit.

A Thriving Family-Friendly Atmosphere

The park was transformed into a lively amusement hub, featuring fairground rides, inflatable attractions, and an array of food stalls. The smiles on the faces of attendees were a testament to the success of the event, with families enjoying various activities in the beautiful sunshine. Mohammed Bilal, who attended the festival with his wife and two daughters, expressed his delight, stating that the festival provided a safe and welcoming environment for families. "I can't tell you the relief of the festival being enclosed because it means I can let my kids run freely," he noted, emphasizing the importance of a family-friendly atmosphere.

Event organizer Abdul Aziz also highlighted the festival's commitment to being inclusive. By adhering to Islamic law and not serving alcohol, the festival maintained a peaceful atmosphere free from rowdiness, ensuring that everyone felt welcome. "It doesn’t matter what colour, religion or where you are from, everyone is welcome here," Aziz asserted, reflecting the festival's core value of community unity.

Growth and Success Amid Challenges

After facing challenging years, the festival is finally beginning to break even financially. Organizers reported that this year's attendance was around 30,000, a significant increase attributed in part to favorable weather. Volunteer Anjun Saqid voiced the importance of this long-standing tradition, stating it is crucial for showcasing a united community. The festival's expansion from one day to three demonstrates its growing significance.
