Join the Climate Movement: Two Million Strong This June!

This June, over two million people across the UK are expected to unite for the Great Big Green Week, a significant initiative aimed at tackling climate change and fostering community engagement. Scheduled from June 6 to June 14, this year's event promises to galvanize individuals and organizations who care deeply about climate action.

A Community-Centric Approach

Organizations like Co-op, BT, and Openreach are stepping up to support this monumental movement. Co-op, in particular, plans to mobilize its over seven million members and employees, encouraging them to participate in various community events that will take the essence of the Great Big Green Week into local neighborhoods.

Success From the Previous Year

Reflecting on the success of 2025, where more than 1.2 million individuals participated in approximately 5,800 events, it is anticipated that the number of participants will approximately double this year. This year's initiative aims to create even more accessible opportunities for those who may be new to climate activism, with a special focus on engaging individuals who have not participated in such events before.

Strengthening Community Bonds

Paul Gerrard, the public affairs, policy, and campaigns director at Co-op emphasized the importance of local action: “It’s a practical, positive moment that helps communities come together for good. We’ll be encouraging our members and colleagues to get involved locally, celebrating what’s already happening and taking simple steps that make a real difference for climate and nature.”

A Collective Effort

The Great Big Green Week is designed to be a non-political event, open to everyone and focusing purely on actions that benefit local communities while protecting nature. Businesses of all sizes are invited to participate, further showcasing the normalcy of climate actions in everyday life.

As the event approaches, it is clear that the Great Big Green Week 2026 will not only highlight individual and collective progress on climate issues but will also foster a sense of shared responsibility for the environment. This initiative represents a vital step towards building resilient, environmentally friendly communities.
