Inspiring Young Minds: St Margaret’s Prep School Holds First Careers Fair
Pupils from St Margaret’s Prep School in Halstead recently stepped into the world of work at an exciting Careers Fair that provided students with a unique glimpse into various professions. The event, which was the first of its kind for the school, featured hands-on activities and real-life stories from parents and community members, making it a memorable experience for children aged two to eleven.
Engagement Through Exploration
The event was designed to help younger students start thinking about their future career paths. Through interactive sessions led by representatives from diverse fields—including the Armed Forces, emergency services, engineering, and more—children were able to engage directly with professionals. They explored professions through practical activities, asking questions, handling equipment, and observing uniforms, which helped to bring each job to life.
A Community Effort
The success of the Careers Fair was greatly aided by the participation of local parents and community members, who volunteered their time and expertise. Reverend Sue from St Catherine’s Church discussed career opportunities within the church, and the school’s new Groundskeeper, Emma Day, shared her inspiring journey of transitioning from teaching to agriculture. These real-world experiences not only captivated the children but also highlighted the diverse career paths available.
A Commitment to Learning Beyond the Classroom
Headteacher Carolyn Moss praised the event, stating it was a valuable opportunity for pupils to broaden their horizons and build confidence in communicating with adults. According to Moss, “The Careers Fair was a valuable and memorable experience for all of our pupils. It not only broadened their understanding of the world of work, but sparked their curiosity and helped further develop their communication skills.”
This initiative reflects St Margaret’s Prep School's commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom, fostering curiosity, and enhancing communication skills essential for their futures. As schools increasingly recognize the importance of early career education, events like this are proving to be crucial in inspiring the next generation.
