Inspiring Young Minds: A Celebration of Creativity and Literacy
A new creative literacy initiative has been launched in the heart of Milford Haven, designed to ignite a passion for reading and writing in young students. Funded by the Port of Milford Haven, this project has brought together six primary schools to encourage self-expression and foster a love of storytelling among Year 2 pupils.
Harbour Tales: A Journey to Creativity
Over the course of 12 weeks, students participated in the Harbour Tales programme delivered by Gwella, an organization dedicated to enhancing learning experiences for children. The initiative transformed standard educational practices by taking learning beyond the classroom and placing creativity at the forefront.
Collaboration with Creative Experts
Students had the unique opportunity to collaborate with seasoned creatives, including Kerry Curson, a notable author and publisher, and Di Ford, a talented illustrator. Together, they guided the children through imaginative writing exercises and hands-on visual storytelling, allowing young minds to develop their stories and communicate their ideas effectively.
A Celebration of Learning
To conclude the programme, students and faculty gathered at the Port of Milford Haven’s Sybil House for a celebratory event. Gwella’s Project Lead, Sarah Milligan, highlighted the significant growth in children’s confidence throughout the initiative, marking a pivotal moment in their educational journey.
