Inspiring Young Advocates Shine at Sunderland Young Achievers’ Awards
The Sunderland Young Achievers’ Awards recently celebrated the exceptional talents and contributions of the youth in the community, with the Sandhill View Deaf Resource group taking home the top honor. This annual event, organized by Together for Children, has been highlighting the achievements of young individuals for over 30 years, showcasing determination, kindness, and creativity.
Recognition for the Sandhill View Deaf Resource Group
The Sandhill View Deaf Resource group was honored for their efforts to raise awareness of deaf culture and British Sign Language (BSL), promoting an inclusive environment both in their school and the wider community. Their inspiring story exemplifies the remarkable work young people can achieve when they come together for a common cause.

Beyond the overall winner, other remarkable young achievers were recognized during the ceremony. Daisy May Knight received the Youth Voice Award for her creation of the 'Siblings of Stars' bereavement support group, an initiative born from her personal loss. Similarly, Oliver Hughes was awarded the Music Award for his dedication to drumming during a family crisis, and 11-year-old Lola Mae Stephenson was named Young Health and Wellbeing Champion for her fundraising efforts in support of homelessness and bereaved families.
