Inspiring Women of Barking and Dagenham Honored for Their Leadership and Dedication

The Borough of Barking and Dagenham recently celebrated the remarkable achievements of its women leaders at the 2026 Women’s Recognition Event. Held on March 13 at Barking Town Hall, the event was a poignant reminder of the incredible impact women have on strengthening communities. This celebration, part of Women’s Empowerment Month, brought together local councillors, community partners, and guests for an uplifting afternoon.

Highlighting Remarkable Contributions

Councillor Sade Bright, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment, Skills and Aspiration, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of gender equality and empowerment. She stated, “This year’s nominees and winners represent the very best of Barking and Dagenham. Their resilience, creativity, and commitment to others help drive our borough forward.” This acknowledgement reinforces the council's commitment to continue championing the rights and recognition of women in various sectors.

Celebrating the Woman of the Year

A particularly touching moment of the day was the announcement of Ansarun Ahmed as the Barking and Dagenham Woman of the Year 2026. Recognized for her unwavering support of women in the community, Ahmed has made significant strides through the Women’s Coffee Morning Programme at Leftley Sports Club. This initiative has been instrumental in tackling social isolation, empowering nearly 1,000 women through wellness, skills development, and community integration.

Building Stronger Connections

Through her dedicated efforts, Ahmed has fostered an inclusive environment where women feel supported and motivated to thrive. Her work exemplifies the tremendous difference one individual's initiative can make in creating community connections and encouraging personal growth among women.

As the borough continues to highlight the importance of women's contributions, events like these serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us all of the positive changes that can arise from dedication, partnership, and collective action.
