Inspiring Stories of Women Elevating Cricket in Sussex
This International Women’s Day, Sussex Cricket is shining a light on the remarkable contributions of women in the cricketing community. By sharing their journeys and accomplishments, the initiative emphasizes that cricket is an inclusive sport, inviting participation from everyone, regardless of gender.
Chiara: A Passionate Role Model
Chiara's inspiring journey begins at her local state school, where she never imagined she would one day wear the Sussex badge. In her candid video message, she discusses the significance of her representation of teammates and the county, emphasizing the exciting prospects for Women’s Cricket with the impending ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England & Wales. Chiara believes that the sport is gaining momentum thanks to increasing support and visibility, much like that received by Women's Football and Rugby teams.
Ellen: A New Perspective on Cricket
Highlighting another pathway into the sport, Ellen shares her experience as a scorer in cricket. Her video details how stepping behind the scorebook not only fostered her confidence but also provided her with a sense of belonging in the sport. Ellen urges more women and girls to engage with cricket’s diverse roles, illustrating that there is much more to the game than batting and bowling. She encourages participation in the new free ECB Online Courses, expanding pathways to enrich the community.
Cherry: A Lifelong Love for the Game
Cherry’s heartfelt narrative captures the essence of how childhood experiences can ignite a passion for sports. Starting at Mountfield Village Cricket Ground, she displayed determination, training with boys when opportunities for girls were absent. With robust support from her teachers, she went on to pursue her cricketing ambitions, eventually becoming a vital figure in coaching. Having returned to cricket after raising her family, Cherry's commitment to fostering skills among women and girls showcases the nurturing spirit of the cricket community.
In addition to her qualifications and achievements, Cherry shares her joy in promoting cricket, stating, “I love being able to help promote the great game of cricket to women and girls. It is very rewarding to see them develop their skills, have fun, and enjoy the game.” Her efforts have significantly contributed to a thriving network of female cricketers.
