Inspiring Photography Exhibition Celebrates Local Foster Carers

A poignant new photography exhibition is set to tour North East Lincolnshire this May, offering a rare and intimate glimpse into the lives of the region’s foster carers. This initiative coincides with Foster Care Fortnight and aims to honor the incredible contributions made by these individuals.

An Authentic Showcase of Stories

The exhibition features the personal journeys of 13 local foster carers, placing their authentic stories at the center of a public tribute. The project is a collaboration between North East Lincolnshire Council and Grimbarians, a local platform committed to shining a light on inspirational figures within the community.

Designed as a creative departure from traditional studio portraits, each carer selected a location of personal significance for their photograph. These settings—ranging from the beautiful coastline to vibrant green spaces and iconic landmarks—illustrate the deep connection between family life, community, and the local landscape.

A Celebration of Community and Commitment

The exhibition will be hosted at Cleethorpes Library from May 11 to May 14, and again on May 16, before moving to Freshney Place Shopping Centre from May 18 to May 22. This event is not only a celebration of the dedication of local foster carers but also serves to highlight the ongoing need for more foster families in the area.

Ann-Marie Matson, Director for Children's Services, emphasized the importance of this tribute by stating, "At the heart of fostering are people who are willing to offer care, stability, and understanding when children need it most. This exhibition shines a light on the dedication of our local foster carers and the meaningful difference they make in children’s lives every day.”

Encouraging Conversations and Support

This exhibition also seeks to address the challenges that foster carers face, calling for greater understanding and support within the fostering system. Throughout the two weeks, North East Lincolnshire Council will celebrate its foster carers while raising awareness of the urgent need for more local carers.

Dan Clarke, the photographer and lead creative at Grimbarians, expressed pride in this project, stating, "It’s been a privilege to meet the foster carers, hear their stories, and celebrate them. Projects like this sit right at the heart of what we’re about, helping communities feel seen and connected."

As the exhibition opens, it promises to share important stories and foster greater awareness of the significant impacts of fostering in the region. For those interested in learning more about fostering, contact details are provided for further inquiries.
