Inspiring Journey: Harry Clark Encourages Youth to Tackle the Global Water Crisis

This week, Slough witnessed a remarkable blend of inspiration and charity as Harry Clark, the celebrated broadcaster and author known for his triumph on BBC's Traitors, returned to his roots to motivate local students in an ambitious charity initiative. At St Bernard's Catholic Grammar School, Clark empowered students participating in CAFOD's Big Lent Walk, a significant campaign dedicated to providing clean water to communities worldwide.

Making a Meaningful Impact

The Big Lent Walk, now in its fifth year, was originally launched during the lockdown as a 'walk for water' to honor the millions who trek long distances daily for access to clean drinking water. This year, participants aim to collectively cover 200 kilometers over 40 days, symbolizing a vital contribution toward addressing the global water crisis affecting countless individuals. Over 1,000 supporters, including hundreds of schools nationwide, are joining this noble cause.

Harry Clark's Inspiring Message

During his visit on February 25, Clark shared his personal journey, discussing the challenges he has faced and overcome, including his time in the British Army and the experiences from filming his BBC ONE documentary, From Slough to the Vatican. His heartfelt message highlighted the transformative power of faith and perseverance. Clark remarked, “I’m very proud to be here for CAFOD… I never realized how much walking and running could help strengthen your faith.”

Students Taking Action Against Climate Change

St Bernard's headteacher, Paul Kassapian, praised the students’ commitment to learning about climate change and taking proactive steps to support communities affected by it. “It’s wonderful that they are now taking action and doing their bit to help tackle this global issue,” he noted. This initiative not only fosters awareness but also encourages the youth to engage actively in global challenges.
