A new program called Shepherding Future Shepherds, launched by the International Institute for Culture, is set to make waves in the Catholic community by expanding its efforts to promote priestly vocations. This initiative, which has reached over 100,000 people on social media, aims to offer dedicated support for men contemplating a path to the priesthood.

Partnership with High Calling Program

On August 18, Shepherding Future Shepherds announced a partnership with the Avila Institute’s High Calling Program. The collaboration is focused on providing a structured format to help individuals discern their calling to the priesthood. Matthew Haas, the program's director, emphasizes the importance of guidance, stating that the initiative will not only provide resources but also a complete program designed for formal discernment.

Positive Impact Through Social Media

The initiative has garnered significant attention on social media, amassing over 7.8 million views on videos that showcase inspiring stories from contemporary priests. This outreach demonstrates that there is a profound interest in the priesthood, particularly among young people.

A Hopeful Vision for the Future

Despite the challenges posed by negative perceptions surrounding the priesthood, Haas remains optimistic. “We’re very hopeful despite all the negativity that’s out there,” he said. The program has also successfully attracted over 6,000 participants to its weekly prayer group, further highlighting the community's commitment to fostering a supportive environment for vocations.

Addressing Cultural Challenges

In recognition of the cultural challenges facing the priesthood, particularly among younger demographics, the initiative aims to counteract negative stereotypes by highlighting role models within the Church. Haas stresses the importance of sharing modern-day stories of priests making a difference in their communities, in order to connect with younger generations who may feel disconnected from traditional views of the priesthood.
