The recent 2026 Sporting Heroes Awards, hosted by Enjoy East Ren, brought a wave of positivity to East Renfrewshire as it shone a spotlight on the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations dedicated to grassroots sports. With over 175 nominations, the event was a true celebration of dedication, resilience, and community spirit.

A Night to Remember

Held at Clarkston Halls, the awards ceremony was attended by notable athletes, including Olympic star Lee McConnell, who shared inspiring stories of perseverance in the face of challenges. Celebrating Local Talent

Among the highlights of the evening were recognitions for exceptional young volunteers and coaches. Barrhead High School pupils Paul Mooney, Kyle Madiwa, and Dudek Korabinski received the Young Person Volunteer of the Year award for their invaluable contributions to Junior NBA Basketball. Similarly, Olivia Margiotta was honored as Young Coach of the Year, representing St Ninian's High School and Mearns Gymnastics Club.

Honoring Community Clubs

The event also acknowledged the tireless work of community clubs, with Bushido Karate Greenbank being named Community Club of the Year. Such accolades not only recognize individual achievements but also the collective efforts of clubs and schools in promoting sports and encouraging participation in the community.
