Inspirational Voices: DMU Students Spotlight Community Heroes in New Lecture Series
De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester is set to inspire the next generation as students enrolled in the Foundation Degree in Tourism and Event Management launch a captivating series called "Voices of the City." This initiative spotlights the invaluable contributions of community heroes, such as advocates and charity leaders, aiming to bridge the gap between education and real-world impact.
A Platform for Change
This three-part lecture series provides an exceptional platform for local leaders to share their stories with students, fostering a sense of community engagement and inspiration. The events, managed by students from Leicester College, are supported by DMU’s United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Hub and will take place at Heritage House.
Empowering Students and the Community
Radostina Gininska, a student team leader, expressed her enthusiasm about participating in the project, stating, “Being involved in planning and promoting the event has given me a real insight into how events come together.” This hands-on experience not only enriches students' learning but also empowers them to impact their local community significantly.
Looking Ahead: Inspiring Topics and Influence
The upcoming events, scheduled for May 7 and 14, promise to explore critical topics, including the role of sports in shaping identity and community, alongside discussions on creating safer environments against violence. According to Dr. Hiu Man Chan, the project’s initiator, “Leicester is a city with a lot of potential, and the future lies with the young people.”
This initiative represents more than just education; it embodies the spirit of community involvement and a collaborative effort to address local issues while preparing students for future challenges. Through programs like "Voices of the City," DMU is paving the way for a vibrant, engaged generation ready to shape their community positively.
