How a Youth Running Club is Transforming Lives in Bhubaneswar

In the heart of Bhubaneswar, a vibrant new movement is taking shape among the youth, centered around fitness, community, and mental well-being. The BAE Run Club has emerged as a refreshing alternative to late-night social media scrolling, with its members favoring early morning runs as a source of discipline and connection.

The Genesis of BAE Run Club

Founded in July 2025 by 24-year-old Prasidhi Poddar, the BAE Run Club started as a small initiative aimed at supporting Gen Z individuals facing personal and professional challenges. Prasidhi's experiences in global business hubs highlighted the importance of community support, which she sought to replicate upon her return to Bhubaneswar. Recognizing a gap in youth running groups, she initiated a platform that encourages both fitness and friendship, embodying the motto of ‘you before anyone else’.

Building Stronger Connections Through Running

The club has quickly become a beacon of inclusivity and connection, attracting young runners from across both Bhubaneswar and neighboring Cuttack. With events designed to be beginner-friendly, participants engage in runs that emphasize social engagement over competition. Many members, like Monalisha Dash, have found solace and support within this community, which has helped them navigate their personal struggles and achieve fitness milestones.

Community Engagement and Themed Events

BAE Run Club distinguishes itself through themed events that celebrate key occasions throughout the year. For Father’s Day, members will participate in a run and return with sunflower and pumpkin seeds to gift their fathers, adding a personal touch to the group’s activities. Regular meet-ups in scenic locations such as the Ekamra Kanan Botanical Garden further strengthen bonds as runners enjoy the tranquility of nature while pursuing their fitness goals.

Promoting Overall Well-Being

More than just a fitness club, BAE Run Club promotes the overall well-being of its members. With more than 1,000 young participants engaging in 53 events, the club has thrived on the joy of communal post-run activities, where members gather at local cafes to enjoy each other's company and reflect on their achievements. The club’s growing social media presence, with over 5,000 followers on Instagram, showcases the enthusiasm and vibrancy of its community.

As BAE Run Club continues to grow, it serves as a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives in fostering connection, improving mental health, and promoting a healthier lifestyle. In a world increasingly focused on digital interactions, this club stands out as a reminder of the benefits of real-life relationships forged through shared experiences.
