The Cowdenbeath Rotary Club has embarked on a remarkable initiative that is transforming the lives of a community in Zimbabwe by providing them with a reliable water supply. This project not only addresses a basic need but also fosters economic growth and community well-being.

Raising Funds for a Vital Resource

The club raised £800 to support the development of a well in Arcadia, a community situated just outside Harare. Recognizing the need for clean water, they applied for an additional grant from Rotary District 1010 to meet the total cost of £2,000 required for the installation of a pump system. This infrastructure project is crucial for the residents, as it will supply fresh, potable water to both their homes and the agricultural fields they cultivate.

Positive Outcomes for the Community

According to Hank John, a club member who learned about the community's need for fresh water through interactions with a local church minister, the feedback from Arcadia has been overwhelmingly positive. He expressed his delight upon learning that the water supply is already being utilized effectively in households and is contributing to successful crop yields in the fields. John emphasized the broader impact of the project, stating, “The 40 metre well is supplying good clean water which is helping this fine community in so many ways.”

Tom Russell, the club's International convener, highlighted the collaborative effort involved in this initiative, noting that it encapsulates the essence of a successful community project.
