Historic Agreement Paves the Way for Moldovan Citizens' Social Security in Slovakia

In a significant development for Moldovan citizens, an agreement signed today in Bratislava will allow those who have worked in the Slovak Republic to access vital pensions and social benefits. This milestone was achieved through the collaborative efforts of the Moldovan Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, and Marián Valentovič, the State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, and Family.

Details of the Social Security Agreement

The newly established Social Security Agreement sets a fair framework aimed at protecting the social rights of individuals who have legally worked in either Moldova or Slovakia. Under this agreement, Moldovan citizens can now avail themselves of several essential benefits, including old-age pensions, disability pensions—whether due to a general condition or from work-related incidents—as well as survivor's pensions and allowances.

A Commitment to Social Rights

Minister Natalia Plugaru highlighted the importance of this agreement by emphasizing Moldova's ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral agreements concerning social security. "Each signed agreement reflects our firm commitment to protecting the rights of citizens, wherever they are," Plugaru stated. This move is part of a broader initiative to create a robust social protection system for Moldovan citizens, ensuring they are supported regardless of where they work.

Moldova's Expanding Network of Social Security Agreements

This latest agreement with Slovakia is part of Moldova's strategic expansion of social security pacts, with a total of 22 such agreements signed thus far, 18 of which are currently active. In recent years, the country has also established social agreements with various nations including Italy, Greece, Spain, Latvia, France, Switzerland, Canada, and Ukraine. These actions reflect a proactive approach to safeguarding the welfare of Moldovan citizens working abroad.

The signing of this agreement during President Maia Sandu's official visit to Slovakia underscores the importance of international collaboration in promoting social rights and welfare. It stands as a testament to Moldova's dedication to its citizens, further enhancing their prospects for a secure and stable future.
