Heartwarming Rescue: Community Steps Up to Save Animal Sanctuary

An animal rescue centre in Hull has been spared from closure thanks to the unwavering support of the local community and a compassionate landowner. Never Give Up Rescue CIC, run by Amy Donoghue, faced the dire threat of eviction after her landlord decided to sell the property housing the sanctuary. With 39 animals relying on her, Amy's determination and community engagement led to an inspiring turnaround.

From Despair to Hope

Amy Donoghue, a dedicated rescue worker for 15 years, was on the brink of losing her home and sanctuary last month as the deadline set by her landlord approached. She launched a Crowdfunder campaign to seek donations for a new home for the animals and herself. Miraculously, her efforts paid off; she secured a temporary space for the pets and a separate living arrangement for herself.

The Power of Community Support

Thanks to overwhelming local support and exposure from media coverage, Amy found a new, albeit temporary, location for the animals. The new site, located in West Hull, is on land that was previously used for horses and offers a safe haven for the cats. “I was so happy when I saw the land. I was ecstatic — the minute I got there, I could picture the pens on there,” she said, expressing her relief and joy after securing the property.

A Vision for the Future

Despite the temporary nature of this solution, Amy remains steadfast in her goal of finding a permanent home for the sanctuary. With the Crowdfunder campaign still active, she is optimistic about securing the necessary funds. Future events are set to take place, including a fundraising bingo afternoon and a charity concert, both aimed at supporting the rescue’s ongoing needs.

Amy remarked, “This rescue has survived every challenge so far thanks to determination, compassion, and the support of an amazing community. With your continued help, we can finally create a safe, secure future for the cats who depend on us.”

This story exemplifies not only the resilience of individuals like Amy but also the incredible impact of community involvement. Together, they have turned a potentially tragic ending into a hopeful new beginning for these animals.
