The latest Foundation Practice Rating (FPR) reveals the best results in the initiative's five-year history, demonstrating an overall commitment to positive change.

This year, an impressive twelve foundations achieved an overall A grade, marking the highest number ever in a single year. The assessment, which evaluates 100 grant-making foundations, indicates statistically significant improvements since the initiative began. Furthermore, three foundations earned A grades across all domains: diversity, accountability, and transparency—a feat that had only been accomplished once in the past four years.
A Closer Look at Positive Outcomes
Notably, the number of foundations grading a D in all three categories has decreased, illustrating enhanced performance across the sector. "Five years ago, we recognized the need for substantial improvements, particularly in diversity," stated Danielle Walker Palmour, Director of Friends Provident Foundation. "These results showcase our collective progress, which is encouraging not only for the charities we fund but also for the communities they serve."
Community Foundations Leading the Charge
One standout among the top-rated organizations is Mission 44, a foundation established by Sir Lewis Hamilton, dedicated to fostering an inclusive future for young people. CEO Jason Arthur expressed pride in their AAA rating and emphasized their commitment to inclusive practices that center diverse voices, particularly those of young people.
Moreover, community foundations continue to excel, with all members from this year’s cohort scoring an A or B overall. Emma de Closset, Chief Executive of UK Community Foundations, highlighted the importance of local engagement and the strong ethical values that underpin effective funding practices.
