The vibrant heart of London is poised for a transformational upgrade, as Westminster City Council, in collaboration with The Crown Estate, pushes forward with ambitious plans to redesign key areas including Regent Street, Haymarket, and Piccadilly Circus. Following an unprecedented public consultation that drew over 5,000 responses, the project is set to enhance not only the aesthetic appeal of these iconic locations but also their functionality and accessibility.

Creating New Public Spaces

The proposals aim to create more than 35,000 square meters of new public space, equivalent to five football pitches, that will be traffic-free in major zones, such as the south side of Piccadilly Circus. This initiative is anticipated to significantly improve pedestrian access, offering a much-needed retreat in one of the busiest parts of London.

Community Engagement Driving Change

The project has shown remarkable community involvement, with feedback from numerous in-person events and online surveys guiding the design process. An impressive 60% of respondents expressed their support for the changes, evidencing a strong public desire for safer and more enjoyable urban spaces.
